Description
Great Isle Farmhouse is a substantial farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with significant alterations and additions made in the 19th century. The building features rendered and pebble-dashed masonry and brick, topped with Welsh slate and concrete ridged-tiled roofs, along with rebuilt brick chimneys. The main block is two stories high and consists of three bays, with two lower additions to the right.
The left bay retains a fragment of a late 15th to early 16th century chamfered plinth, which likely continues from the probable chapel range attached to the left side. There is a projecting, two-story gabled wing in the second bay. Access to the farmhouse is through four steps leading to a 20th-century glazed door with an overlight in the third bay. The windows are late 20th-century casements set in 19th-century openings, featuring flush wedge lintels and projecting sills. The roof and gabled wing display shaped kneelers and 20th-century coped gables, with chimneys located at the central ridge and ends.
To the right, there is a two-story, single-bay addition that has similar window features. An attached lower two-story, two-bay outbuilding on the far right projects forward and showcases large, roughly-dressed alternate quoins and 20th-century fixed lights. A 20th-century glazed conservatory attached to the right return is noted but is not of special interest. The farmhouse is included for its group value with the chapel range.
