Description
The temple, located approximately 350 metres west of Raby Castle, is a folly built in the third quarter of the 18th century, possibly designed by D. Garrett. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a Gothick style. The building is one storey high and consists of one wide bay. The projecting center has steps leading up to a Venetian opening, flanked by quatrefoil columns with acanthus capitals and pilasters. These support a cinquefoil-cusped two-centred arch and an impost string. The string course extends over long side-shaped panels, with quatrefoil panels positioned above it. A parapet band with five banded blocks is present, and the string course continues along the returns. At the time of the survey, some structural damage was noted.
