Description
The Summerson Tomb, located about 4 metres south of the Church of St. Edmund in Edmondbyers, dates from around 1679 and commemorates John Summerson. It is made of sandstone and features a plain grave-cover with an inscription that reads: "HEAR LYETH THE/BODY OF JOHN/SUMMERSON OF/COOPPERHAUGH/ WHO DEPARTED/THIS LIFE THE/SEVENTH DAY OF/FEBRUARY IN THE/YEAR OF OUR/LORD GOD/ 1679."
