Description
The fountain located 160 metres west of Biddick Hall is a garden feature that was likely assembled in the late 19th century, incorporating fragments from the early 18th century. It is made of carved stone and is designed in the Baroque style.
The fountain is tall and situated in the center of a circular stone basin. It consists of four sections: a late 19th-century octagonal pedestal with vermiculate rustication, resting on a rock-faced plinth; an early 18th-century boldly-carved Baroque base adorned with sea monsters, fish, and shells; an early 18th-century wide, shallow shell bowl with a deeply-scalloped rim; and possibly an 18th-century crowning feature that includes carved stone pelicans and foliage.
