Description

A terrace of three houses located in Whorlton. Number 3 dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the early 19th century and later. Numbers 1 and 2 were built in the early 19th century, with Number 2 originally being a byre. Number 3 is constructed of sandstone rubble with dressed quoins on the left side. Numbers 1 and 2 are of dressed sandstone. The roofs are pantiled, with a single row of sandstone flags at the eaves, and feature sandstone stacks. Each house has two storeys and three bays, with a central doorway and a blank bay above. The windows have renewed surrounds and projecting sills. Number 3 has an early 20th-century door, a canted bay window to the left, three 16-pane sashes, and an oval datestone above the door displaying the date 1818. Number 2 has an early 20th-century door with a two-pane overlight and four 16-pane sashes. Number 1 has an early 20th-century door with a two-pane overlight, a canted bay window to the right, and three four-pane sashes. The roof includes slightly projecting eaves and coped gable parapets with shaped kneelers. The left gable has a corniced ashlar stack, there are three similar ridge stacks, and the right gable has a rendered brick stack. 20th-century brick additions and detached outbuildings to the rear are not considered to possess group value.
