Description

Axmouth Bridge is a road bridge over the River Axe, built in 1877 and designed by Philip Brannon. It is notable for being the first bridge in England constructed of massed concrete, which is shaped to resemble rustication. The bridge features three segmental arches with imitation voussoirs and rusticated piers situated between cutwaters. A concrete parapet runs along the bridge, adorned with panels that have lattice work impressions. To the west of the bridge, there is a contemporary toll house, also made of concrete.
