Description

The Royal Pier and Entrance Building, opened in 1833 by Princess, later Queen, Victoria, is a notable structure featuring cast iron piers with wooden flooring and later iron railings. The building has undergone some alterations, including partitions added in the later 19th century. The entrance, which is an early 20th-century addition, is a two-storey stuccoed design topped with a dome that has a pineapple finial. It includes band windows, console brackets, and stylised flambeaux. The building is adorned with a parapet and a dentil cornice, and features Ionic columns and sash windows. The ground floor showcases engaged Tuscan columns and a bowed entrance projection.
