Description

These are two adjoining buildings on Cross Street, dating primarily to the early 19th century, with an earlier section incorporated into the right-hand side. The front facades are rendered, likely over local rubble stone, and feature red ridge tiles and a red brick chimney. The buildings are two storeys high, with a continuous eaves line, although the roof pitches differ.

No. 20 is the earlier section on the left, displaying a four-over-four pane sash window with an exposed window frame and a four-panel door to the right. A plain four-over-four pane sash window is located above the door. No. 21, immediately to the right, is of similar construction but larger, with a prominent doorcase and hood over the entrance. A four-over-four pane sash window sits above the door. The roof of No. 20 is slate, while No. 21 has a different type of slate.

The older section, which forms the right-hand side of No. 21, features a four-over-four pane flush framed sash window to the left and a shop front with five vertical lights within a pilastered frame topped with a cornice to the right. Two further four-over-four pane sash windows are positioned above the shop front. This section has a significantly steeper roof pitch and a chimney stack to the left gable. The rear elevation was not visible during the survey.
