Description
The barn, dated 1597, is located to the north of Kemeys Manor and encloses the south end of a small yard, aligned on an east-west axis. It features four bays with elevations made of coursed rubble. The east end has a gabled roof, while the west end has a hipped roof covered with Roman tiles. The north elevation includes an off-centre, full-height doorway flanked by ventilation slots. The south elevation features a two-storey porch with a round-headed door surround made of dressed stone beneath a relieving arch. Above the doorway is a three-light, sunk-chamfered window with a hoodmould, although the outer two lights are now blocked. A datestone inscribed with "1597" is situated above this window, along with another similar two-light window above it. A flight of steep steps on the east side of the porch leads to another doorway. There is also a similarly blocked three-light window on the west side of the porch, and a partially blocked doorway on the west gable with a later hipped roof.
Internally, the barn shows evidence of a former first floor in the west end, with two large stop-chamfered beams that have mortises for joists remaining. A planked partition with a door leads to a loft above the porch. The original pegged "A" framed roof structure is still intact.
Attached to the northwest end of the barn is a single-storey byre range, with the east side open and supported by conical rubble columns, typical of the local style. There is also a four-bay 19th-century cartshed attached to the east end of the barn, and to the south of the cartshed is the remains of a further range, likely stables, of which only the south gable and parts of the east and west walls now stand. The yard is enclosed by a coursed rubble wall.
