Description
Ysgoldy Tre-Elidyr, also known as Llanover School, is a single-storey rectangular building that resembles a classical orangery. It is rendered and painted, likely over brick, and features a natural slate roof with red brick stacks. The front of the building has eleven bays arranged in a 4 + 3 + 3 configuration, with the central three bays set forward and adorned with a pedimented temple front supported by Doric pilasters.
There are steps leading up to the central panelled double doors, which have a fanlight above. These doors are flanked by arched windows that feature impost bands, fanlights, and 8 + 8 pane casements. Above the windows is a relief inscription that reads "YSGOL HARDDWCH GWLAD" (Schooling, Beauty, Country). The pediment has a toothed cornice and carries another relief inscription, "YSGOLDY TRE ELIDYR 1925." Each wing of the building has four cross-framed casement windows, and the overall roof is hipped with a large stack at each end of the ridge.
The rear elevation is visible, but there are late 20th-century extensions that have been added. The interior was not seen during the resurvey.
