Description
High House is a house constructed of whitewashed rubble stone, topped with a half-hipped roof covered in red plain tiles. It features a prominent corniced stone ridge stack with weathercoursing. The building has two storeys and an attic, with two small gabled dormers on the east front. On the first floor, there are two pairs of casement windows with three-pane top-lights, and to the right, a shorter triple casement window. The ground floor includes a 20th-century triple window on the left, two similar pairs of casement windows with top-lights in the centre and right, aligned with the windows above, and a half-glazed door between them. There is a 20th-century lean-to on the south end wall with a door facing east.
At the rear, there is a single-storey range with a slate roof attached, featuring a whitewashed stack on the west side and a door on the south side. The main range to the left has a 20th-century metal window above and a glazed door below, with a tiny light to the right at mid-height. To the right of the single-storey range, there are a casement window and a pair of casement windows on the first floor, along with a pair of casement windows with a top-light below.
The house has a three-room plan, with the entrance passage located north of the chimney. Inside, there are two beams in the north room and three massive beams in the central room, one of which is positioned over the fireplace. The beams feature diagonal stops to the chamfers, and there is a stone winding staircase.
