Description
The Fan House at Sudbrook Pumping Station is a 19th-century building made of red brick, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The main south elevation features what appears to be the base of a water tank on the left, which has blocked arched openings on two floors and two small square openings above, along with a cornice and a flat roof. In the center is the fan housing, notable for its vertical circular shape. To the right is the gabled engine house, which includes two tiers of elliptically headed iron framed windows and a circular light in the low-pitched gable. The rear elevation of this section mirrors the front. The side elevation facing the River Severn has two floors with six windows, consistent with the previous design.
The interior was not inspected during the resurvey. This building was constructed to accommodate an engine that operated the fan for ventilating the Severn Tunnel.
