Description
Nos. 9 to 12 Almshouse Street consist of a range of red brick double-depth houses with Bath stone quoins and a Welsh slate roof. Dating from the 18th century, the building comprises two parallel ranges arranged in a single fronted design. The houses are three storeys high, with four windows per house and five doors along the ground floor, one providing access to the rear. The ground floor doors are vertical plank. Windows are typically sash windows with 3 over 6 panes, except those on the top floor which feature 3 over 3 panes. The roof has a low pitch, with two large brick ridge stacks positioned between each pair of houses. The west gable end is rendered above the roofline of the adjacent property, and the gable of the rear range is visible. The rear elevation is also rendered and features plain casement windows. The interior was restructured in the late 20th century, resulting in small rooms, though some original features remain. A resurvey of No. 11 revealed this detail.
