Description

White Lion Cottage is a modest 17th-century farmhouse that has been heavily remodeled in the 19th century, giving it the appearance of a Victorian building. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, which is now painted white, and features blue slate roofs with red cockscomb ridge tiles. The layout is L-shaped, consisting of a 2-unit range oriented north-south and a 1-unit wing attached to the east side of the south unit. Each section is 1½-storeyed and includes a large gabled full-dormer. Both the dormers and the main gables are decorated with wavy bargeboards and apex finials.

In the angle of the L-shape, there is a large mono-pitched canopy, covered with slates, that protects a small 2-light casement window on the ground floor and a small square porch with a plain doorway leading to the wing. The gabled dormer on the right side features a 2-light window with four panes in each light, while the wing has segmental-headed 2-light windows on both floors. Each section has a square gable chimney and a single-storey lean-to attached to the gable wall. The rear of the building has not been inspected.

Inside the main range, there is a room with a deep chimney stack that contains a large Tudor-arched stone fireplace. In the corner to the right of the fireplace, there is a spiral stone staircase. The room also features chamfered beams and joists with semi-broach stops. Other parts of the interior have not been inspected.
