Description
40 Cross Street is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring a rendered and painted front elevation and a Welsh slate roof. The structure has a gable-ended range facing the street, with a cross gabled roof and a small rear wing. The central entry shopfront, added in the late 20th century, includes plain display windows and a fascia. Above this shopfront, there is a triple sash window with 6 over 6 panes flanking an 8 over 8 pane window. The gable has plain bargeboards.
The current front elevation differs from old photographs, which show a single sash window above a smaller shop window and door, along with an additional attic window in the gable. These photographs indicate that the gable has been significantly rebuilt in the late 20th century and has a raised ridge line. The rear elevation is also rendered and features a gabled wing that may be of a later date. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
