Description

White Castle Cottage is a two-storey building with rubble stone walls and a fibre-cement roof. It features a stone end-stack to the north and a projecting gable stack to the south. The east front faces the road and has 20th-century windows that simulate glazing bars and have concrete sills. The ground-floor openings have segmental arches made of stone voussoirs. On the first floor, from left to right, there is a 6+6 window, a larger 6+6 window, a 6+6+6 window, and another 6+6 window. The ground floor includes a blocked doorway on the far left, followed by an 8+8 window, a 20th-century boarded door, a 6+6+6 window, and a 6+6 window on the far right. Attached to the north end-gable is a single-storey open garage with a gabled roof.

The south elevation features a rear wing on the left and the gable of the main house on the right. The windows here also have segmental arches of stone voussoirs and shallow sills. On the first floor to the left is a 6+6 pane casement window, and on the ground floor, there is a corresponding window and an 8+8 casement window to the right. There is a blocked door in the rear of the cross wing at first-floor level, along with later infill in the rear angle between the blocks.

Inside, the room to the right of the entrance hall has chamfered beams, with at least one beam being re-used, and stop-chamfered joists. The room to the left of the hall also has chamfered joist beams. The roof of the front block features two heavy trusses with mortice and tenon collars, and the corbels or wall-posts are visible in the bedroom below, with a later truss at the junction with the cross wing.
