Description
The Cross in St Michael's Churchyard is a restored medieval cross-shaft made of red sandstone. It stands approximately 3 meters high and is mounted on a square plinth consisting of three steps, set in a low cavetto-moulded base. The cross-shaft is rectangular in section, tapering from 37 by 32 centimeters at the foot. Its convex corners are decorated with small shields that alternate with ball-flowers, which are so crudely carved that they resemble small skulls.
