Description
The Babington Centre is a low, single-storey village school built in the Tudor Revival style. Constructed from sandstone rubble with some coursed sections and freestone dressings, it features Welsh slate roofs. Originally, the building comprised a single classroom with a very small master's cottage at the rear, both of which have since been extended.
The front of the building is symmetrical with three windows and a central cross gable adorned with wavy bargeboards. The openings have broad chamfered reveals, with the central one being taller and featuring a rectangular dripmould and a blind panel above. The flanking windows are sash windows with 1 over 1 panes. To the left, there is a lower one-window extension with cross-glazing. The main gable ends have dripmoulds over large cross-windows, and there is a modern porch on the east side.
At the rear, there is a wide-spreading two-storey gabled range with a stone chimney stack and sash windows on two levels, situated between lean-to extensions. The building is set behind a stone-walled forecourt that faces the main road, with pedestrian gatepiers located downhill on the east side, although the ball-finials are missing.
Inside, the main classroom features a three-bay principal rafter roof.
