Description
The Chain Bridge, located partly in the Gwehelog Fawr community, is a Grade II listed structure. It features a painted steel single arch design with paired bowstring lattice girder arches. Iron rods descend from these arches to support fish-bellied pierced iron girders beneath the road deck. The two curved trusses are linked over the roadway by two lattice girder spans. Decorative iron railings include a moulded plinth, square posts, and rails with oval and circle patterns, topped with a moulded handrail. At each end of the bridge, there are end rubblestone piers adorned with dentilled cornices and caps, along with commemorative bronze panels affixed to the west piers. Additionally, there is a short length of coped squared rubblestone wall at both ends. The tollhouse from the previous bridge, which has undergone significant alterations, remains at the Llanover end of the bridge.
