Description
The Lodge of Abergavenny Castle is a building constructed of coursed squared semi-ashlar red sandstone, topped with Welsh slate roofs and featuring a stone stack. It has a T-shaped plan, with the head facing the road and the kitchen wing at the foot. The structure is two storeys tall, with a modern single-storey addition.
The elevation facing the road is mostly blind, featuring only a lancet window on the first floor and an elaborate gabled stone porch with an arched head and sidelights below. The elevation facing the drive includes the main room window, which is a canted timber bay with one pointed-headed lattice light on the left, two in the center, and one on the right, all topped with a battlemented design. Above this, there is a recessed two-light window in the gable, along with another window on the ground floor of the rear wing. A drip course runs between the floors, while the first floor of the rear wing is blind. The return gable has a two-light window on the upper floor. There is also a modern lean-to extension against the rear. The main gable features bargeboards with a tie and finial, a plain roof, and a multi-flued stack located at the angle between the wings.
The interior has not been inspected during the recent resurvey.
