Description
Abergavenny Castle is a ruin built entirely of Old Red sandstone rubble, which is roughly coursed. The earliest work on the Gatehouse may be distinguishable from the rest of the structure, while part of the work on the south-west Tower exhibits a more ashlar quality. The castle features circuit walls that include the remains of two towers and the main Gatehouse. The walls stand at a height of 5 to 6 meters, with the polygonal south-west Tower being the most impressive, further enhanced by a large and fine copper beech tree that grows within it. There are also fragmentary remains of interior features, including two garderobes located in the south-west Tower.
