Description
Lantellen Farmhouse is a 15th-century hall house that was altered in the early 17th century and again in the 19th century. It features a pointed doorway made of freestone that leads to a cross-passage, with another doorway located in the yard.
Although the interior was not inspected during the recent survey, earlier documentation by Fox and Raglan describes ceiling beams and joists in the hall and parlour. These show a combination of segmental rounds and hollows, rolls and beads, with quirked details, creating a refined and delicate effect that is uncommon in the Early Renaissance phase of the Regional style. The parlour, in particular, is noted for its dignified and beautiful interior, enhanced by a large, well-proportioned window and finely-shaped woodwork that casts sharp and delicate shadows.
Pevsner and Newman provide a brief description and an updated summary of the building.
