Description
The Tithe Barn is a long rubble building that was originally a corn barn and has been converted into two houses around 1995. It features a tall roof covered with Roman tiles, which were fully replaced in 1995, likely replacing a stone-slate roof that had been in place for at least 150 years. Both main sides of the building have distinctive triangular ventilators typical of south east Wales, along with some standard slit vents, some of which are blocked.
The left section of the barn originally contained the threshing floor, indicated by the boarded barn doors, which were replaced with glazing around 1995. The doors on the north west side, which served as the cart entrance, are taller than those on the south east side, which served as the cart exit. A single-storey wing was added to the left side around 1995, providing the entrance to No 1 and garages. The rear elevation was not visible during the resurvey.
The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the resurvey in October 1999, but the conversion to two houses included the insertion of a floor, and it is noted that the roof structure was entirely replaced during the conversion around 1995.
