Description
The Old Vicarage is a modest, rubble-built house that showcases simple Georgian character and has apparently been recently restored. It features a large, lower outbuilding, possibly a former stable, attached to the left gable. Both the house and the outbuilding are constructed from roughly-coursed sandstone rubble. The house has a roof made of blue and purple slates, while the outbuilding is covered with graduated grey slates, and both structures have brick chimneys.
The building has a linear plan oriented east-west, facing south, with the outbuilding forming the western half and projecting slightly. The house is single-depth and includes a gabled staircase wing at the rear, along with a lean-to addition in the eastern angle. The façade of the house is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and three windows. The only decorative element is a deep moulded wooden eaves cornice with diamond-shaped dentillation. The central doorway is a simple square-headed opening with a recessed panelled door and overlight. The windows are 12-pane sashes with raised sills and red brick reveals. Both gable chimneys have corbelled-out cornices, with the left chimney appearing to have been rebuilt. The outbuilding has a doorway slightly offset to the left, featuring a wooden lintel and a board door. Above this doorway is a small square loft window with plain glazing, and to the right is a 2-light casement with a wooden lintel. A very tall brick chimney is located between these two openings. Additionally, a wooden lean-to garage is attached to the left gable.
Inside, the layout and details are similar to those of Mill House. The entrance hall leads to the staircase wing, with one room on each side. Both floors feature ceiling beams of relatively light scantling, including a secondary beam with a cyma-stopped chamfer in the eastern room on the ground floor. The western room contains a fireplace on the west wall, measuring approximately 1.5 meters wide and 1.25 meters high, with rubble jambs and a cambered oak lintel. The rear staircase wing features a dog-legged staircase with closed string, square newels, bar balusters, and a lightly-moulded handrail. The roof of this wing has two collar trusses.
