Description
Skenfrith Bridge is a three-span stone-built public road bridge over the River Monnow. It is constructed of coursed rubble with dressed voussoirs and parapet copings. The bridge features three segmental arches with plain dressed voussoirs, with the central arch being slightly higher than the others. Triangular cutwaters are present on both sides, along with a plain string-course on each side and parapets that have slightly convex copings. The two central piers are now protected by shallow hexagonal concrete plinths. On the inner side of the south parapet, there is a wide rectangular panel that bears the inscription: "This Bridge was Rebuilt at the Expense of the County of Monmouth in the Fifth year of The Reign of GEORGE THE FOURTH, And in the year of Our LORD 1824." Although slightly eroded, the inscription remains legible. The bridge is well grouped with Skenfrith Mill and Skenfrith Castle. The eastern half of the structure is located in the County of Herefordshire, England.
