Description

Castle Terrace, numbers 33a-47, is a terrace of Georgian houses located on the sloped road between Wye Bridge and the town centre. Each house is single fronted, featuring three storeys and a cellar, with one window on each floor. The walls are scored and painted roughcast, topped with slate roofs and narrow brick stacks at the divisions. The upper floor windows typically consist of 3/6-pane sashes set in reveals, while the first floor windows are generally 6/6-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are usually segmental bows with small panes, fixed but including single-pane opening lights, and there are deep plinths below. The panelled doors are set in wooden door cases on the left, some of which have rectangular overlights and shallow wooden hoods supported by brackets, most of which are decorated with fretwork. The overall effect is symmetrical, despite some alterations in detail and variations in dimensions.
