Description
The schoolroom at Zion Chapel features a striking three-bay Neo-Classical facade that is quite severe in design. It is constructed from coursed ashlar stone and includes a blocking course on the outer bays, a moulded cornice, and wide pilasters at the center. The building has banded quoins and a sill-band, topped by a hipped slate roof that has a ventilator. The windows are arched on the first floor and keyblocked on the ground floor, with fixed small-pane glazing. Above the central arched doorway, there is a recessed tablet flanked by attached Tuscan columns, a glazed fanlight, and double panelled doors. The area is enclosed by railings that are raised on a coped stonework terrace.
The side elevations have four windows and are rendered, featuring sash windows on two levels. The upper openings are arched and have intersecting glazing bars.
At the left rear, there is a low slated and rubble former schoolroom that is attached at right angles. This can be accessed via a passage that includes an ironwork gate.
