Description

The former stable and barn range at Ty Aberaman is an exceptionally long structure built from roughly coursed rubble with dressed stone details and a corrugated roof that has overhanging eaves. The building is divided into four sections.

On the center left is a barn featuring a tall round-headed wagon archway made with voussoirs, which is flanked by two tiers of two ventilation slits on each side. There is also a modern metal garage door. On the uphill side (right), there is a section with three round-arched openings, including a central doorway and flanking windows with brick sills, as well as blocked similar arched loft openings.

At the far end right, there is a section that originally had three wide segmental-arched cart or carriage bays, of which two are blocked with masonry and have later smaller doors, while one has been altered to a wide square-headed garage opening. Above these bays are three round-arched loft openings fitted with metal grilles.

Downhill from the barn, the arches become flatter, with three segmental-arched openings to the loft featuring grilles and five openings on the ground floor that were originally doors, three of which have been converted to boarded windows. The rear of the building has fewer openings, most of which are blocked. There is a blocked oculus and a square-headed opening in the downhill gable end, while the uphill gable end reveals the ends of metal ties at purlin level visible in the masonry.
