Description

Cambrian Buildings is a five-storey structure with an attic and basement, featuring a south elevation that spans five bays. The glazing throughout has been replaced with modern materials. The building has a modern hipped slate roof with windows. The fourth floor, situated above a cornice, showcases tripartite windows, with triangular pediments on the end and central bays. The first, second, and third floors are distinguished by giant pilasters with Ionic derived capitals that include decorative motifs such as dolphins, sea monsters, and walruses, which represent symbols of trade, with dolphins positioned near the bases. The tripartite windows on these floors have shallow architraves, while the central windows are slightly bowed.

The ground floor features a banded design with large keystones above camber-headed tripartite windows. The central doorway is adorned with a 'Roman bath' tripartite light above, flanked by pilasters that display ships and anchor chains in their Ionic derived capitals. The basement windows are three-light with decorative iron grilles, and the end windows have taller central openings with pediments.

The eastern elevation is styled similarly and consists of eight bays in total. The left four bays are part of the Cambrian Buildings, while the remaining bays belong to the Cymric Buildings. The entrance doorway is located in the fifth bay, with windows positioned above it. The doorway is surrounded by Portland stone, which also frames the basement windows to the right that feature keystoned voussoir lintels.
