Description

Marine Buildings is a three-storey and attic domestic block built with yellow brick facings, bathstone dressings, and a red rusticated plinth. The slate roof has been partially removed and features French pavilion roofs at both ends, adorned with ornamental railings, as well as mid-roof parapets and brick chimneys. The building has a 15-window front that is divided into five sections of three windows each. Squat pilasters on the second floor support a roll-moulded eaves cornice, while raised segmental dormer-heads with twin lights are located at the centers of the bays, with plain surrounds and keystones for the other windows.

A deep bracket cornice sits above the first floor, which has enriched window architraves. The center windows feature bracket cornices with pediments, and there are panelled inlays on the friezes. The cantilevered balconies have dropped sills and display the Taff Vale Railway monogram in ironwork on the five center bays, which break the band courses over the ground floor. The ground floor has grouped segmental and arched openings with continuous rope-moulded hoods, transoms, and keystones beneath the balconies. The wide windows have center colonettes and cast Romanesque capitals, although these were boarded over at the time of inspection. The doorways, which are paired at the center, lead up steps and feature six-panel doors.

There is a three-bay return elevation on the right side, with detailing that matches the main front. The building was boarded up at the time of inspection in February 1992.
