Description
27 High Street is a two-storey building with a gable end wall facing the street. It features roughcast cladding and a slate gabled roof, with brick stacks on both the front and rear gable ends. On the ground floor, there is a doorway with a ledged door, leading to a shop and a first-floor office, along with a wide canted shop window. The first floor has two widely spaced 4-pane sash windows. At the rear, there is a long range dating from the 18th to 19th century, with wings made of whitewashed stone rubble walls. The roofs of this range are mostly clad in slate, with some areas on the southeast side featuring pantile cladding.
Inside, the ground floor shop has two massive ceiling beams and, at the rear, a stone vaulted chamber. The original roof trusses are believed to remain, although they were not inspected.
