Description
The presbytery at the Catholic Church of St Joseph is a substantial two-storey building dating from the 20th century. It features a central block with cross gables at each end, a slate roof, roughcast render, exposed stone quoins, and bathstone dressings and sills.
On the left side, there is a square chimney, with another chimney located at the rear of the gable, and a rectangular chimney positioned at right angles to the main ridge on the right side. Additionally, there is another rectangular chimney at right angles to the ridge of the right crosswing. The left gable extends down over a garage, which is a later extension. The first floor has three round-headed windows, while the ground floor has four. The central section features four square-headed windows at the eaves, which are asymmetrically placed.
The ground floor includes a shallow round-arched porch with the original entrance door, which has decorative strap hinges and a small pane window. There is one round-headed window to the left and two to the right of the porch. The right gable has three round-headed windows arranged in a 1 + 2 pattern, and on the ground floor, there is a projecting single-storey porch with a hipped roof. This porch has a round-arched entrance and two windows to the right, along with the original door.
The east elevation has four square-headed windows on the first floor, and on the ground floor, there are four round-headed windows, a smaller window to the left, and a round-headed door leading to the extension on the right, accompanied by a small window.
The west elevation features three square-headed windows on the first floor and three round-headed windows on the ground floor, along with two square-headed windows at the rear of the garage.
At the rear, the building has cross gables at each end, with the left (east) gable containing a single-storey block topped with a hipped roof and a small square window. Above the extension, there is a window on the right. Between the gables on the left, there are two square-headed windows on the first floor and two round-headed windows on the ground floor; to the right, there are two round-headed windows situated between the two floors.
