Description

Zoar Chapel is a building in a simple classical style, featuring a gable-end facade with three bays. The exterior is rendered and pebble dashed, topped with a slate roof that has wooden boarded eaves and verges. The base has a concrete rendered plinth and dressings. The facade includes wood planked double doors beneath an arched head with a fan light, flanked by tall multi-pane windows with round heads and stone sills. Above the doorway is a shorter window of similar design. The gable contains a circular vent with a tablet below that reads: SOAR / TREFNYDDION CALVINAIDD / 1876.

The rear of the chapel is plain, featuring only a vent in the gable. The side walls each have two windows with arched heads and stone sills, but without dressings. Each window has a four-pane sash at the base, with multi-pane glazing above that includes radial glazing beneath the arch. While the sashes are later additions, the upper glazing is original. On the east side, there is a wide pilaster between the windows.

Inside, the chapel features a three-sided gallery supported by simple cast iron columns. The gallery front is made of polished wood with moulded recessed panels, and between each panel are white painted pilasters with consoles. The gallery contains three rows of panelled pews. The ceiling has a moulded cornice and a beautifully decorated ceiling rose at the center, with four rosettes in the corners. On the ground floor, there are six rows of box-style pews with carved raked ends. A vestibule at the rear provides access to both the ground floor and the gallery. The simple set fawr is from the 20th century, and behind it is a blind arch with plain pilasters, fluted consoles, and a moulded round arch.
