Description
The Aberdulais Viaduct is a 5-bay structure, with 4 bays spanning the River Neath and a 5th bay on the west side that crosses Station Road. The abutments, which are part of the original bridge opened in 1851, are made of coursed, hammer-dressed sandstone. The later arches and parapet are constructed from snecked, rock-faced stone featuring blue-brick arches. The piers have V-shaped cutwaters topped with pyramidal caps. Below the parapet, there is a thick projecting band made of blue brick. The flat coping consists of large bricks. The abutments have a battered design, with a concave profile beneath the deck, and they are splayed outward to support an embankment. The deck of the viaduct carries a single track.
