Description
Copper Beech Barn is a house that was formerly an outbuilding, constructed from colourwashed rubble stone and featuring a slate eaves roof. It has a modern stack on the left end and is designed as one storey with an attic or two storeys under the same roof. Various masonry joints indicate that there have been additions and alterations over time.
The right section includes a cambered-headed door and a 9-pane window with a concrete lintel, along with a large modern gabled dormer above. There is a vertical joint present. The main part of the building features a 12-pane window with brick sides and a concrete lintel, followed by a door with a cambered head, a small boarded opening above under the eaves, and another large modern dormer above. To the left, there is a small inserted window, followed by another door with a cambered head and a 9-pane window with a similar head, both of which have small 9-pane windows under the eaves above. The windows are of the hopper type and have stone sills.
There is a straight joint leading to a short addition on the lower left end, which has a blocked door. The west end wall features a 16-pane window on the upper floor with stone voussoirs. The rear of the building has three modern dormers, a small 9-pane window with stone voussoirs to the left, and two more to the right, along with one small loft opening to the right.
The interior has not been inspected, but in 1991 it was noted to have a storied left end with chamfered and stopped beams and a bressumer. The floor is stone flagged, and the windows are deeply recessed. There is a winding timber staircase with a ledged door that formerly opened into a stepped-down bay at the gable end. The structure features pegged and lapped collar-trusses, with the feet set into projecting sole plates and overlapping purlins.
