Description
Maes-Coch is a stone building with a corrugated iron roof. The lower section on the northwest features a chamfered doorway with a shaped head and a four-light window that has a chamfered exterior and ovolo-moulded interior, although one mullion is missing as it was replaced by a doorway. On the southeast side, there is a stout doorframe. The upper section on the northwest has two original window openings, while the southeast has a window with a chamfered head that is morticed for four lights. There is also a projecting stair-turret with a truncated chimney, and on the northeast end, there is an upper window frame for five lights with a stone label.
At the time of inspection in Autumn 1994, the building was disused and in poor condition.
Inside the hall build, there is a doorframe by the chimney dating from around 1600, and a hearth with a chamfered deep lintel. The ceiling beams are ovolo and ogee-moulded, with one beam supported against the chimney on a carved 17th-century bracket. The joists have beaded or moulded edges against the chimney, and there are remains of wall-painting on the chimney breast featuring a scalloped border. The upper end ceiling beams are deeply chamfered with pyramidal stops, and the stout joists present are secondary. The upper floor has a central plank and muntin partition that is chamfered and reaches the apex of the truss, originally serving as a dais canopy, although the lower part of the canopy is missing, leaving scars in the walls. The roof consists of two bays with three tiers of largely original purlins.
