Description
The Turbine House at Pontsticill Water Treatment Works is a small building constructed from coursed, occasionally snecked rock-faced sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings. Its outer side is part of the wall of the Compensation Basin, and it has a Welsh slate roof. The building includes round-arched doorways with heavy doors, hinges, and locks at each end of the inner side, along with multipane metal-framed round-arched windows on the sides and in the gable ends, although the south gable is obscured by a later addition.
Inside, the walls are painted white, and there is a stained planked ceiling. The original hydro turbine, manufactured by Gilkes of Kendal, is still present, although it is no longer in use as it has been replaced by a new version. The interior also features a gantry for maintenance, supported by heavy corbels, and valves are still in place.
