Description
The barn at Llanvihangel Court is a Grade II listed structure featuring a timber frame built over a stone base on the long walls, with thin coursed rubble on the gable walls and some red brick where it connects to the Stable Block. The roof is covered with corrugated metal sheeting. The barn is box framed with four tiers of square panels and consists of five bays, each made up of 4 by 4 squares of framing. The oak framing includes spliced repairs and replacements.
The west gable wall has a high opening, while the east gable shares a wall with the Stable Block. There are opposed central doorways leading to the threshing floor, which currently has no surface walling on the framing. The principal posts are jowled and feature brackets connecting them to both the ties and the wall-plate. Raking braces extend from the principals to the sole plate in the center of each bay. The threshing floor is flanked by low walls on either side.
The barn includes four principal rafter trusses with ties and raking struts, along with three tiers of trenched purlins and a ridge piece. Most of the timbers, including the secondary rafters, are original, except for some recently replaced pieces.
