Description
Talgarth Mill is a water-operated mill dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and has three floors topped with a stone-slated roof. The gable end features double access doors leading to the lower bin floor, similar doors on the first floor, and a two-light casement window that illuminates the top "hopper" floor. On the southern end, there is an external overshot water wheel, which has an iron shaft and a connecting hub with five radial timber spokes attached to an outer iron ring that holds iron-bound rim buckets. Above the wheel, there is a timber plank box that contains a rod-operated sluice, which controls the flow of water from a 40-centimeter diameter iron delivery pipe. This pipe draws water from beyond two sluice gates further upstream and runs at a slight fall parallel to the river, leading into the head box. No machinery remains in the mill.
