Description

The South Stable and Service Block at Glangrwyne Court is a complex of buildings dating to the 19th century, arranged around a partly cobbled courtyard. The layout comprises a central coach house wing facing south, a cross wing to the left (west), and a shorter wing to the right. The buildings are two stories high, constructed of rubble stone. The cross wing and part of the coach house are rendered with scribed roughcast. The roof is slate.

The central coach house features a later gabled porte cochere with a tile roof supported by round cast iron piers. Behind the porte cochere is a projecting gabled bay with pilasters of dressed stone, double boarded doors, and a plain pediment of coursed stone. The pediment contains a lunette with thin voussoirs and a prominent keystone. Flanking the central bay are a blind oculus to the left and an oculus within a brick surround to the right. The wing has a boarded door with a three-pane overlight to the left, and a doorway with a replaced overlight to the right. The cross wing incorporates two cottages and a cart shed. The lower storey has openings with segmental heads, including two boarded and ribbed doors flanked by small-pane iron-framed casements. A wide cart shed doorway is at the left end, also with double doors. The upper storey has a central two-light casement beneath a wall plate, flanked by small-pane iron-frame casements set within gablets. The stable wing to the right has a boarded door under a wide segmental brick arch facing the courtyard, and an inserted doorway lower on the left-hand side, also with a brick segmental head, with two small-pane iron-frame casements above. The east wall of this wing, facing the garden, has a lunette towards the upper right.

At the rear, a lean-to addition of the late 19th century extends from the left (east) side of the central wing. This wing itself has a stable door with a two-pane overlight and a segmental brick head, along with a boarded loft opening above. Another loft opening is located to the left. The rear gable end of the cross wing features boarded double doors under a stone segmental head, and an oculus above. A late 19th-century projection with a hipped roof, open to the rear, is attached to the right (west) side of the cross wing.

The building was not inspected during the survey of December 1997.
