Description

This is a pair of three-storey houses, numbers 8 and 9 Orchard Street. They were likely built in the 18th century. The houses have slate roofs and front walls of stone, with number 8 having a painted finish. They feature a stone plinth and window openings with dressed stone surrounds. The second-floor window heads are at eaves level, whereas the first and ground floor openings have slightly cambered heads. There are three window bays alternating with doorways. The second floor has three-pane windows on the left and centre, with a modern small-pane window on the right. All ground and first-floor windows are now fitted with 12-pane sashes. Number 9 has a two-window front and includes a wooden doorcase with plain pilasters, paterae blocks, a frieze, a cornice with modillions, and a modern glazed door.
