Description

Springfield Cottage is a three-window house, likely dating to the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble masonry with quoins, and has a slate roof with end stacks made of masonry. A lean-to addition extends from the rear, featuring a north-end stack. The eaves and bargeboards are made of wide boards. A central, lean-to porch of timber and latticework, also covered with slate, gives access to the front. Flanking the porch are wide, 16-pane hornless sash windows with red stone sills and lintels, each topped with a matching hoodmould. Similar windows are located on the upper storey, though the central window is narrower, containing 12 panes. A narrow dormer window with multiple panes sits under the gable, which features an eroded stone tablet. The rear lean-to has 20th-century windows. The south gable end has no openings. The interior was not accessible at the time of inspection in August 1997.
