Description

Upper House is a 2-storey building that forms the advanced wing of a former mansion, facing east. It is constructed of rubble with dressed quoins and features a steep slate roof that sweeps out to the base and is slightly raised at the rear pitch. The building has rubble chimney stacks, including one axial stack with diagonally set shafts above a projecting chimney breast that has a gablet to the left. To the right, this range wraps around the gable end of the original main range, which has a large chimney stack projecting from its rear corner. The façade includes irregularly spaced mullioned windows, some of which may have been renewed, and the original list description mentions some sash windows. There is one 2-light window with a Tudor hoodmould on the first floor and one blocked window in the attic. The attic windows on either side of the stack on the left-hand gable also have similar hoodmoulds.

Single-storey ranges extend to the south and east. The southern range has a rubble half-hipped end that has been converted for use as a workshop and garage, while the eastern range is made of rubble and contains a boarded door entrance. The rear features sash windows, along with a further low extension to the northeast, which has a rubble and brick chimney stack in the angle.

Inside, the building retains some stop-chamfered beams and an altered 17th-century staircase, along with panelled doors and other early 19th-century fittings.
