Description
Fryer's Yard consists of four three-storey blocks arranged around a central courtyard. The southwest elevation of the southwest wing faces St Mary Street, with the right-hand section known as North House. The elevation on St Mary Street features exposed stone on the left and stucco on the right. There is a band at the second floor level and a plinth. North House has two semi-circular lunettes in the attic storey, two three-light sash windows on both the first and ground floors, and a central doorway on the ground floor flanked by fluted pilasters, topped with an entablature and a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight. The right return of North House includes a semi-circular lunette on the top floor.
To the left, Fryer's Yard has a brick band and brick dressings, with two bays featuring modern glazing. The right-hand bay has a tall segmental-headed arch that rises through two storeys, topped with a semi-circular lunette. The left-hand bay includes a semi-circular attic lunette, a first-floor window, and a window and doorway.
The similar northeast elevation facing Church Lane is made of stone with a red brick band at the second floor level and red brick voussoirs. It features four semi-circular attic lunettes with modern glazing. On the first floor, there are segmental-headed openings, two of which have modern glazing, while the third is a doorway with a dressed stone head leading down to ground level, and the fourth is a 20-pane sash window. The ground floor windows match those in the bays above, with a camber-headed doorway at the right end.
