Description

Llanelieu Court is part of a 15th and 16th century house, with the western section rebuilt in the late 19th century as a three-bay, two-storey house featuring gable stacks. It includes a two-bay, two-storey rear wing that contains a bay from the late medieval building, of which two bays still survive. The structure is made of limewashed rubble stone with a slate roof. One bay has a cross passage, and there is a door at the side of a large stack leading into the second bay, which is now part of the rebuilt rear wing. The rear wing has 19th-century three-light casement windows with cambered heads.

An external pointed arched doorway features a later medieval double-ogee bracket moulding. The battened door retains its original ironmongery and a drawbar at the rear. Above the door, there is a reset moulded voussoir inscribed with EXITVS / ACTA:PROBAT / 1676, alongside another stone with a weathered inscription reading SIC HORA SIC VITA / DEUS NOBIS HOEC OTIA FECIT / R A / W M Anno Domini noctua vola 1676 W A H. Haslam records that these inscriptions, along with a third set opposite, are from Virgil's Eclogues and Ovid's Heroides, with the initials belonging to William and Richard Aubrey.

The gable of the rear wing has replaced windows, and there is a parallel wing on the south side. The cross passage is lower than the road and features the jambs of a similar pointed arched door leading to the added kitchen at the rear. A two-centred chamfered arch from the cross passage extends alongside the stack to the hall. The ceiling has three bays divided by chamfered beams, and there is a very large monolithic lintel above the fireplace, with a further chamfered door leading up to the former stair.
