Description

The limekilns at Blackrock Limeworks consist of a large rectangular kiln with battered walls and a smaller kiln set back to the right. They are constructed from rock-faced limestone, with the left side built into the rock face. The main kiln features two round-headed drawing arches, each with arch-rings made of three red brick header courses. Inside, there are well-preserved brick vaults; the left kiln has a wide stoking hole, while the right kiln has small paired stoking holes and brick-lined crucibles. In front, there are remains of a low stone-faced platform. The smaller kiln to the right has a similar drawing arch. Adjacent to the right is a cranked retaining wall for the loading ramp, which extends approximately 50 meters and follows the line of the quarry face.
