Description
The revetment of the former Merthyr, Tredegar and Abergavenny Railway at Darrenfelen is a long, curving structure built from rock-faced masonry. It runs approximately 750 metres in a north-south direction along the steep side of a narrow gorge. At the northern end, there are a pair of round-headed arches made with stone voussoirs that extend out from the sheer rock face. Beyond these arches to the right, the retaining wall is battered and continues for about 150 metres, following a gentle curve and is partly obscured by accumulated spoil. There is a low segmental arch located right of centre, featuring a blue Staffordshire brick arch ring. Towards the right end of the revetment, there is another pair of round arches, followed by a low segmental arch at the extreme right.
