Description
Pont Newydd is a rubble-stone bridge featuring two unequal segmental arches, with the lower and narrower arch located on the west side (right bank). The earlier phase of the bridge is found on the north (upstream) side, which includes a V-shaped cutwater topped with a pyramidal cap. A butt joint marks the separation between the original bridge and the extension on the south side. This extension is characterized by broad central and outer pilasters, as well as freestone voussoirs that have projecting keystones. The later rubble-stone parapet has plain copings, although part of it has been replaced with concrete on the southeast side, and the ends of the parapet are splayed out.
