Description

No 9 is a semi-detached house, paired with No 8, built in the late Victorian Queen Anne style. The house is rendered and features a timber two-storey veranda, extensive red tile-hanging, and deep eaved slate roofs. It has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range for the pair. The front is framed by large three-storey canted bays topped with canted hipped roofs. The recessed center has paired attic gables with overhanging bargeboards, terracotta finials, and tile-hung gables above two three-light windows. Below this is a lean-to tiled roof over the two-storey veranda, which has four bays with turned balusters and timber posts. The first-floor posts support brackets that create shouldered-headed openings, while the ground-floor posts have curved brackets that form arched openings with pierced spandrels. The windows are primarily sashes, with small panes in the top sash only. The center gables feature narrow triple sashes, and there is a tripartite French window with top lights on both the first and ground floors. The canted bays have a dentilled eaves cornice, fish-scale tiling between floors, red brick below, and three large sash windows on each floor with narrow outer sidelights. There are panelled piers between the windows. The rendered side walls previously had brick stacks and side wall entrances.

The forecourt railings match those found throughout Penllwyn Park and consist of rock-faced rubble walls with stone coping. The low rails have two horizontal bars, standards with finials, and curving brackets under the upper bar. There is also curving ironwork beneath the lower bar, topped with a finial.
