Description

The Picton Monument is a neoclassical obelisk that stands approximately 24 meters high. It is made of tooled grey limestone and is set on a panelled pedestal. The monument features inscriptions in raised capital letters on two sides, stating: "Picton born August 24 1758 Fell at Waterloo June 18 1815." The other two sides list the names of his battles: Busaco, Badajos, Vittoria, Orthes, Toulouse, and Waterloo. Diagonal plain plinths extend from the corners of the pedestal.
